A message from Dean Maurer

The Lamar University College of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We support the statement of our national Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences:  We commit to anti-racism and stand with others who commit to educational efforts to combat anti-Black racism and structural inequality in the United States. We also proudly support President Kenneth Evans’s statement that  only together can we solve problems of injustice. This year we will continue to actively seek to promote diversity in our curriculum, respect in our interactions, accessibility of education to all, and awareness among our faculty, staff, and students.

We are looking forward to beginning classes in the fall. We are planning for on-campus, hybrid, and online courses so that all faculty and students may have access to safely delivered courses. As always, the College of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to our mission: to PromoteAdvocate, and Educate across the broad spectrum of the humanities, natural sciences, technologies, mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences. We will continue to update you on the reopening of campus. If you have input to share on returning to campus,  please click here to complete Lamar’s feedback form.

Dr. Lynn Maurer

Chemistry Assistant Professor Receives Research Grant

Dr. Sylvestre Twagirayezu was recently awarded a $70,000 grant to develop an analytical technique that could have a tremendous impact on the Southeast Texas petrochemical industry. The American Chemical Society's Committee on Petroleum Research Fund Award is a highly-sought after and competitive grant.

This grant will provide many opportunities for student research, will strengthen existing research capabilities and allow for new resesarch through MRR technology, and will encourage collaboration among LU faculty and other companies.

Congratulations to you, Dr. Twagirayezu!
Summer Faculty Challenge

We ask that you recruit at least ONE student to apply for graduate school. Please be willing to assist with the application process, submitting documents, and making decisions in a timely manner. We should be highly motivated to recruit our own students to apply for graduate programs at LU.

We are also interested to know about the student support services that are available in your department. Please send those to artsandsciences@lamar.edu. We'd like to comprise a list to provide the Office of Recruitment for recruiting prospective students into our College.
